Racism and Social Media
Phil Schneider writes in ChurchMag; Most of the time, when I sit down to write, I have a good idea of where I’m going and how I’m going to get there.
This is not one of those times.
What I’m about to do is both dangerous and difficult: I’m going to talk about race...
My overly-quick consideration: There's sure fire wisdom here not least in, ‘How to Respond’. All that withstanding, here's my crit - in lurve... to this article.
In reminding us to; 'first, go to... the person directly and privately’ is one under-sung song. (I will twit you/Phil. This me-comment though, doesn't reach that threshold).
1. Social media makes everything easier by removing the human element.
- nout to comment here but agreement.
2. We have become entrenched in our opinions.
What the the internet was supposed to be is one thing, intention, another? The second bit is all well and good - but - being in alt.-ville, there’s conspicuous lack of engagement from the larger mass who don’t do those kind of alternatives. At all. The name-calling goes both ways (think wool) but equally ‘nuts’ are thrown back.
3. Christians have forsaken the cross for the culture war/The Turn
Considering the effectiveness or appropriateness of their approach. Yup, biggie miss.
Intriguing, nos. 3 is, all the way. Culture and not/Bible or not ? - is a tough pickle. In some ways, it’s not that possible to dissect, the other, too many blazing stumbling blocks? I encourage. Dig on. Especially, in short and accessible pieces like this, otherwise it’s academicy and a book.
One caution/question: You use the O word. Offends? I’d avoid that for all but blatant hate that incites violence. And ‘heresy’ - offends?
I could do with masses more sensitivity to God but I’m not sure this, an included desire. Perhaps privately - in prayer, for said heretic?
Offence de-legitimised is the Church’s enemy. First they came for the racists... Next... they came for the homosexuality haters...
As y’know, truth has the power to win if allowed. And, more commonality than not. My ache - opinion - is we’re being set up. No?
Your article is pushing in peacemaker. More please. (If for whatever reason/no need to feel you should contact me if you read this. I’m not expecting/or needing).
Plus I’m... one of “them”. Peace to you and us. An’ all.
