Few to Many: Jay’s Orthodoxy
Would I do Jay on Orthodoxy if it wasn’t for his analysis on crowds and power?
Silly question really, attempting to highlight a contrast. Highly regarded tracking matrix in cinema, able history often-hidden explain-er, wading into contemporary twist and turns. Near and about, the brightest take you’ll hear/see…
(lets blow cover, if haven’t concluded?)
...is an evangelist.
In wants to tell/does. While might hesitate at an immediate association – and different E word – man is evangelical, about God. Note lower-case.
E defined; Conversion and invite/accept; Activism, go public/get out there, e.g. ‘Resurrection & Theosis’ talking; Bible – hold high and mighty about, and; Christ-centric. Which speaks for itself. (Headings c/o David Bebbington breakdown).
Evangelist... teacher, likely prophetic. Underneath all else – got eyes for above and here’s the unusual, widely respected, about the below.
Famous someone-said quote; Bible in one hand, Newspaper in the other. Needs contextual re-working, but yes. Now with respect to the exceptions and Bible-out, Jay’s not into end-timing pick a verse and futurizing, or diggin’ for giants or…. (a list). Get those sincere, researching ancient and modern mysteries, supposedly build Biblical integrity – but what about the monsters manifest in msm? And why this, the so-pop. among those named Christian and Truth… err. Or, thruther -ish, in the online directory of talkers?
Because the world for real, challenges some peeps theology. Better look-not and face."Other priorities..."
Having earthly powers down, while doing theology alongside politics, in all honesty – where be thee? Don’t see keenies in auditoriums waving their arms, knowing or dealing with empire’s threats to all our tomorrows.
Say again: Hardly a broadcast or writer out there, who can do God with some mean-this, yet gone public and NWO sussed. That is, not neutered by aspects of the modern ‘Evangelical’ – this time E is used, in the collective sense/cultural overlay/invariably with Calvinism and most Zionism – Christianity.
On my dial, those serious and upfront about the rot while getting on God in occasional fluid outbursts is Jay’s fellow well-known Austin Texas resident, Mr Jones. Oh, and Julian Charles who combines politico and God-talk. Might be the closest to Jay in who are, and how interviews, the guests. The Saker another one and into, hereby now known as, the O-way. James Perloff and no disrespect intended, not adding one or two more. There are others. Just. About.
Get m’plea though, be few and far...
Those named have differences with but all got boldness and not the most obv. jumbo stumbling blocks. Or if/where have, keep relatively muted. For all Jay’s allegiance to a wider than local body of believers, he’s not too camped-up. Or if he is, it’s a combo of competing claims that somewhat differ from more usual presentations. This Orthodox umbrella, for me, has big pros and a smattering of some deep, cons.
Back to evangelism (what E... ists do) – Proclaim good news. Jesus used parables, Jay uses culture and news.
Ain’t necessarily best strat. to win friends doing this eh. Few, if at all in media-like circles, share such love of Christ. Certainly love “let’s have a relationship” wise. What’s he doing. Shouldn’t he make ‘these’ talks very occasional and leave there? Watch the cred-ometer and hits.
Banging on – but not in tone. Tragedy... and here/hope. Unashamedly tradition rich from scholarly pursuits, in try-tell without waffle, about complex Christ.
About all got out-there to rightfully engage with and intentional theology. Again “why?”
Awake and open (politics and theology) is hard to find? Conviction with consideration.
A confidence of matters not seen. Faith (is) of things hoped for. Resurrection. A confidence. This kind.
Open..? How far are we? Me?
I’m not that open nowadays and trad claims, God not being the Open One, the Bible appears to demonstrate. And all my experience concurs. This a development, through God’s progressive revelation, things Jesus said yet to be understood. Need God helping and ongoing. Certain theology improved upon and better reflecting intended revelation. Rightly progressing over time, not all held in deposit – e.g. as in – Orthodox tradition.
This other use of openness, is about God in history. Something along uncontrolling love and on God is open lines.
Who has the whereabouts to take some intellectual crit and challenge on this? And for why and what? To give a reason for our hope. Reason that gives us why and what do. For prophetic purposes and power.
Intention for a while been Truthscoop = do more God: Direct and personal. For those getting stuffed and God bother-ers, responding with, “That it? What, you believe… is, this?”
No... Actually. Maybe, through to, not-at-all. Don’t. Or a secondary matter, in don’t mind if you do but please know other views. Through to “believe that and I can’t see Christ is...”. No way.
This trad. or fad is for turning. Over.
Do Jay on God, as others might, because credibility in delivering research and insight lends to thinking might get some suss about God realms? And – pass the smelling salts – he’s a Christian. Ain’t much found around these parts.
A broad Evangelical (note capital E) Christian understanding, is reliably met, in those declaring and living individual acknowledgement that God comes to live in us. Make home. For war, us do and peace, us know. Among all recognised as ‘in’ Christian Church (attend meetings or not).
From first-half – get y’fiver out and give the man a drink a month and get part 2. – ‘Deification of Man: Resurrection & Theosis in Orthodox Theology’. (And looking forward to The Real Reason for the Decline and Fall of the West. Got to finish and concentrate on):
Christ in us, is not granted because of background but chosen, because…
Baptised as a bab?
Sincere and following someone's tradition, would stand at the font and pray along, if that’s the way y’roll but it’s barely sustainable theologically. Although Jay gives reasons why infants are baptised, it darn confuses, come ‘what’s conversion’?
Where put on the breaks in this talk rather than amen-ing. The Orthodox Ch. like all, have rows upon rows of attendees who “leave it at that” because I am/I am a Christian. Told by ma and pa am. Baptised into.
While God distant, remote – unknown. This people’s own admission, not me being ultimate judge. Hence, there’s a spectrum. Potentially all churches have nominal to earnest. Liberal to evangelical perspectives and lifers. Not that 'liberal' is always a departing cause. In theology, can rectify from error.
Plus, what Jay wouldn’t disagree with and maybe makes note part2, infant baptism cometh out of a long-passed misreading of Romans 5:12. Augustine’s inadequate Latin translation. And now we get: Original Sin. Another A. overreaction. Thinking ‘sin’ is stuff in us and ‘makes-us do-bad because’. Transferred in Adam’s semen, therefore ‘corrupts’ new born on, therefore to save from…
And so goes, into more choppy, need a proper check-over particular traditional views.
Want to really like Jay’s theology. As far as heard do, yet know we disagree.
One difference – for me – there’s no lineage of ‘Church Fathers’ so agreeable and agreed upon by Orthodox believers – these saints – to hold in particular regard.
When – more nagging – All who aren’t nominal are Saints. All but... just mentioned and “don’t matter much about God” jus' tag along for say-so, bells and smells, chants and priests…
Again: Is it some ‘priests’ -or- all, know God, are?
Denominations and their holding-tight to, and streams therein, tend toward a historically believed ongoing apostleship. Popes to Puritans and Reformers. Or switch on modern preachers holding into a certain club of acceptable and no talk otherwise. As in Orthodoxy, the claim is, God is held most faithfully through to almost ‘exclusively’ in this/their midst. More claiming ‘early church’ fulfillment. Here’s the rub? Over and above, the ‘other lot’.
Race, colour ‘n all that, blind? How about denomination blind?
Made up titles, post early-church; Pentecostal, Anglican, Anglo-Cath, Cath… Charismatic, Reformed, Orthodox, Baptist, Lutheran... Yes, Evangelical too. Except God sees what ‘evangelical’ at best describes. Invisible church in among, the physical claims and/or church-meeting goers. Should be manifest, in love, joy, peace, kindness etc – kind. Here and there/more or less in devotion and union.
Back to; Conversion, Activism, Bible-high and Jesus-central.
If can, I’d go to an Orthodox service, a most moving time. Iconography from the Orthodox tradition and church, is to fine art, what JS Bach is to music. Small wooden with image on. Can transmit and God dwells in the impartation of and through. Light a candle. Ambient music, alter of materials. Maybe do home church service versions? Rituals rock.
Nuff – this took too long. Listen/read up something and splash straight back and out. This how and next TS (by Mark).
