Daphne
'Daphne Caruana Galizia, known for her investigations into corrupt Maltese politicians, has been killed by a car bomb. Daphne attacked both the government and the opposition in Malta. Daphne's targets ranged from corrupt politicians to banks facilitating money laundering and the links between Malta's online gaming industry and the mafia'.
Read this, immediately said would do a post in a comment.
Called her an inspiration, having never heard of her. Barely looked at her reporting or what was particularity about. Could see she was bravely loving the people through justice. Whatever that took? The price was life.
Her last post, 'That crook Schembri was in court today, pleading that he is not a crook', ends with; 'There are crooks everywhere you look now. The situation is desperate'.
About as tight and all embracing sum-up of worldwide living among.
Thirty minutes after publishing this, she was killed.
Two days later the post has 'no comments'. Perhaps all speechless or maybe, scared? Or, moderated and down? Although not likely. Assume some will spark up... hope so. For this needs a fearless outpouring. I'll wait, see what transpires, then should.
Have no idea what allegations she found and evidence dug up but as she finally ends her writing-life; it's everywhere, crimes, and desperate.
And silence about or shout-out the only issue. Prayer aside, I don't see much else?
In Daphne's case, bog-standard political corruption, seemed to be a main aim. Goes with the assumption, if covering-up illegally derived financial wealth, what else would or wouldn't someone do?
The additional big one is more silence or shout-out. About those not following their politically agreed mandate and rules of the house but led by blackmail. Mob ways and/or power elites... or who knows avoiding what, truth-exposing, reprisals.
This sad loss of someone modelling a way out, the descend and loss, of the last bulwarks of social civility. Is all about, all swim, or all sink? Ideas this is 'only' traditional Mediterranean T.V. like drama are missing the plot. If the rot goes unchallenged the increasing spread start threatening the walls. The people who killed her are unlikely the more religiously-driven globalist-heads. Most likely someone/s in danger, of losing money and thereby power, or perhaps facing courts and jail?
Not necessarily thinking too long-term and yet, this suits the big-mob, who do. They must be hopeful and relieved, watching bloggers-for-justice divide up and self-sabotage and generally deplete away. Although somewhat sustained by a small stream of replenishing up and comers.
Daphne is called 'a blogger'. I'd call her citizen enforcement and legal representative. For this is what other genuine justice blogs and vid-makers are. The last line of defense. Only otherwise are insiders ready with, or considering toward, blowing whistles.
As terrible and important this is for the people of Malta, the wider implication is how will the million bloggers out there respond? Who will comment and what?
Soon be old news (almost already is) but will the historical and symbolic relevance of this killing get some stir-up that we need to get blogging, reach-out to a fazed and confused public, show those who think we've lost our interest and thereby green-light the criminal take-over?
Michael Hastings comes to mind. And the list goes on. As often women, from Serena Shim to Anna Politkovskaya. Here's a 2017 roll call.
What do? Do what she/they did? Imagine, Daphne's desired legacy. With this logic: If we don't speak up/somehow, may as well look away and fear more. Other way is, we are scared but... don't care so and shrink back. Live fuller, accepting potential cost. IF we type or talk out, we have less to fear in facing of and increasingly overcoming. Contribute or crumble?
Speaking-out is a settling and uplifting motion. Plus, there is no exit or escape. We will see the cost collectively, more or less, depending on currently conspicuously few becoming a stronger outcry.
Blogging can be seen as going nowhere fast, preachin' to converted, unrewarding effort? Analysis could demonstrate this. But back to rot and wall analogy and a story:
Missionaries in China a long-while back. Wall fell down in their flat, which was above a bakery. Unbeknown, unseen tiny cracks, spread throughout the wall over may years. The rumbling machine kneading the dough, produced them.
We can't necessarily gauge the vulnerability and a collapsing wall. We can add another crack though. And hope the damage is wider than appears. We don't know... we simply cannot be sure we're so done for.
Running commentary eh? Anyone reading this, yet yapping, going to switch on.
'Daphne Caruana Galizia known for for her investigations into corrupt...'
Way to live.
